Abstract
Background and Objectives: To determine the recurrence and complication rates after ventilation tube insertion (VTI) in chronic otitis media with effusion (OME) regarding to the risk factors such as birth weight, blood type, body-weight, and so on.

Subject and Methods: A retrospective review of hospital records for 154 subjects who underwent VTI were performed. 154 subjects have completely filled up clini-cal records for OME, VTI database form and follow up questionnaires during two years after operation. Relationships between the risk factors and outcome were investigated. Risk factors investigated in this study were ABO blood type, onset-birth weight, combined operation, ventilation tube (VT) holding time, characteristics of the effusion, and onset season of OME. Pearson chi-square test and correlation test were used for stastical analysis.

Result and Conculsion: Statistically significances were found for the risk factors of birth weight, VT holding time, characteristics of the effusion Prevalence of OME is higher in blood type A than other types in Korean. Further study should be followed for the role of ABO type as a risk factor for OME.
